Mexico's top drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman is escorted as he arrives at Long Island MacArthur airport in New York on Jan. 19, 2017, after his extradition from Mexico. (U.S. officials/Handout via REUTERS)  Sinaloa cartel leader Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman has started to hallucinate, suffer memory loss, and depression while in jail, his lawyer claimed. “It is plain to the defense team that something is not right with Mr. Guzman,” defense attorney Eduardo Balarezo told a federal judge, NBC News reported. He said that Guzman should see a neuropsychologist for an examination. Guzman has escaped twice from Mexican facilities, but he’s now being held in near-isolation in a Manhattan federal jail while awaiting trial for running Mexico’s biggest drug cartel. Currently, he’s being held in a cell 23 hours per day with few visitors. Balarezo said the near-isolation has contributed to a “marked deterioration” in Guzman’s mental state. He added that the drug kingpin’s cell

These smart palm trees in Dubai can charge your phone and provide Free Wi-Fi

Image
New species of palm tree has started sprouting around Dubai. But instead of producing dates, the fronds of the Smart Palm harness the sun's energy to allow people to look up city information, access Wi-Fi, and charge their phones, all for free. Topped with nine leaf-shaped photovoltaic modules, a six-meter-tall Smart Palm can generate around 7.2 kilowatt hours per day, enough to operate without ever drawing off the grid. The two prototype palms that have already been installed - one at a beach near the Burj Al Arab hotel and other at centrally located Zabeel Park - each carry a Wi-Fi hotspot, eight charging stations for phones and tablets, and a touch-screen panel giving local details on things like weather and transportation. The company behind the device, Dubai-based D Idea, says connectivity is just the start of the Smart Palm's potential. "Subsequent Smart Palms will have ATM machines and utility bill payment services," said CEO Viktor Nelepa. &q

IPHONE X VS IPHONE 8: PRICE, SIZE, FEATURES, RELEASE DATE – EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW TO HELP YOU CHOOSE

Apple's latest iPhone launch event   was one of the strangest we've seen. Instead of revealing and fawning over two new flagships, the company instead launched a pair of slightly anticlimactic flagships that were quickly overshadowed by a luxury handset not many people will be able to afford. The   iPhone X   has everything that the   iPhone 8   has, plus some extra stuff o n top. So the big question is whether those are worth the extra money, or if you should just get the less premium phone – which still boasts a great camera and all the features you'd expect. Here are the main differences between the new smartphones. Screen size and quality The most immediately noticeable difference between the iPhone X and iPhone 8 is the display.   The X has a thoroughly modern-looking “edge-to-edge” screen   that covers almost the entire front face of the handset, apart from a chunk at the top. The iPhone X’s screen is much larger and sharper than both the iPhone 8’s s

How a high-school dropout with big ideas founded GoGoVan, Hong Kong’s first US$1bn start-up

Image
Like all the best ideas, it started with a problem. For Steven Lam Hoi-yuen – the man who would go on to co-found Hong Kong’s first US$1 billion start-up – that problem was the difficulty of trying to find delivery vans. The year was 2010, and a young Lam was trying to launch his first business venture – a company selling advertisements on food takeout boxes. He and his two co-founders quickly discovered it was nigh on impossible to arrange vans that could transport the takeout boxes to the restaurants, as the call centres they were phoning often did not pick up or claimed they did not have vans available. “ There is never a best time to start something, you can never wait for enough resources to start something. Don’t wait to do something, use your own hands and [go prove it] ” STEVEN LAM, CO-FOUNDER, GOGOVAN The trio had to ring multiple call centres with different pools of drivers to find available vans. They soon realised that each call centre had a limited numbe

Amazing stories around the World:The Drop Of Honey

Image
The Drop of Honey A Farsi Story by David Heathfield Long, long ago this story was told. It has been told ever since, and here I tell it to you today... The Story of the Drop of Honey . A hunter and his hound, high in the desert mountains, found a cave. The hunter in the cave found a hollow, and the hollow was filled with the most beautiful, clear honey. He took his water skin and filled the water skin with honey and left the cave and came down the mountains. He was not in his own land. And there in the town that he entered, he saw an oil seller. He went into that stall and offered his honey for sale - perhaps an exchange for some oil? And the oil seller was intrigued. As he was tasting the honey, one drop of honey fell upon the ground. Some flies buzzed, swarming around the honey. And as they swarmed there, some birds flew down to peck and eat the insects. But as the birds flew, darting among those insects, the cat that belonged to the oil seller leapt upon a bir
